Privacy policy

CarbonCopy is self-hosted software. The people who publish CarbonCopy run no service, receive no data from it, and have no access to your library or to anything you read or listen to.

Who holds your data

CarbonCopy is published by Digitraver. The Android, iOS and web apps are clients for a CarbonCopy server that you run, or that someone you trust runs for you. Whoever operates that server is the party that actually holds your library and your reading history. If you did not set the server up yourself, ask whoever did about their practices — this policy covers the software, not their operation of it.

What stays on your device

The apps keep the following locally:

Uninstalling the app removes all of it.

What leaves your device, and where it goes

Only what your server needs, and only to the server address you entered. That traffic carries your sign-in, requests for your books, and your reading position and annotations so that they follow you between your own devices. It goes nowhere else. CarbonCopy contacts no other host.

What we collect

Nothing. Published builds contain no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no crash reporting. Crash reporting exists in the source code for diagnosing specific bugs, and is compiled out of the builds distributed through app stores.

Permissions, and why they are asked for

Children

CarbonCopy is not directed at children, and collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. CarbonCopy is open source, so the history of this page is public in the repository.
